Best of the 1970's MLB Tournament RULES

1.  We will run the tournament consisting of 16 teams, with 8 in each league (NL/AL).

2.  Each manager will have the opportunity to draft 1 team in each league.

3.  Draft structure will be to pick all teams consecutively in 1 league at a time via a random order lottery.  Reverse order will be used when starting the second league's picks.

4.  To advance to the next round of the tournament a team must defeat their opponent 4 times (best of 7).

5.  Home field play will follow standard baseball conventions of 2-3-2.

6.  Home field advantage (games 1,2,6,7) will go to the team that had the better regular season record.

7.  The same person MUST host all games played in the series, due to import/export issues.

8.  Once each best of 7 game series is completed the host will send the league all of the game files.

10. The goal of this tournament is online / head to head competition.  Managers should set aside 90 minutes to play each 7 game series.  Please pro-actively contact your opponent to plot out a preferred time.  In the event that there are scheduling conflicts, please contact the league office, so that we can work out an equitable arrangement.

11. Each team will have a 4 man rotation.  The software will regulate pitcher usage by pitch count.  This will also be affected by off (travel) days, which will MUST be manually inserted by the series host in between games 2/3 and 5/6.  We will be using the Warm Up in Bullpen rule to reflect reality.  Each manager MUST submit their 4 man rotation (in order of appearance) prior to the start of game #1 in each series.  Pitchers with less than 20 starts will only be allowed to start the same % of games that they started in real life.  This means that a pitcher that started 10 games in a 162 game season (6%)can only start a maximum of 2 games in the tournament (6% of 28 games = 1.68, which rounds to 2). Consult the Starting Pitcher Pro-rated Matrix below Each team can carry a maximum of 12 pitchers on their active roster.  Slightly used pitchers will be removed from the active roster after the completion of a series if their tournament use (# of games) is equal to or greater than their actual real life use.

13. Each team must submit a 25 man active roster to the league prior to the beginning of each series.  A maximum of 12 pitchers can be included on this roster.  Injured players can not be replaced on the roster until the start of the next series, if their team advances.  If an injured player is slated to return in the middle of that next series it is up to the managers discretion if they would like to keep them on the roster or wait until the following series.

14. Players that have more than 400 AB's or played in more than 100 games can have unlimited post season use.

15. Players with less than 150 AB's can not start more than 1 game in the series, unless there is an injury to the usual starter.

16. The game software will manage injuries.  Injury results will be pro-rated, since they are based on a 162 game season and we are playing a 28 game (maximum) tournament.  All fractions will be rounded accordingly.  Days off include:  Travel Dates (between games 2/3 and 5/6), rain out dates, and off dates due to a series completing early.  There will be a mandatory off day added between the end of a series that goes 7 games and the start of the next series.  See Days of Matrix Below

17. GAME REPORTING:  All game reports are due at 11:59 pm EST the night of the announced weekly deadline, and should be reported to the league newsgroup at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/distantreplay/. Each manager is responsible to see that his game results & stats are reported on time on a weekly basis. If a manager should fall behind in the playing and/or reporting of his games and/or stats to a point where the Commissioner should doubt his ability to finish the season that manager can and will be replaced. Constant missing of deadlines is cause for removal from the Tournament without any notice.  Games can also be uploaded to the Yahoo Group File Area.  If you are NOT a member of the Distantreplay Yahoo group, please e-mail the league office to join now.

18. CONFLICT RESOLUTION:  We are all human, and because we are human conflicts or disagreements will arise.  A team of 3 league members (Marc Weiss/Howard Fortel/Bill Keller) will vote to resolve an conflicts not specifically covered by our Rules Charter.  If for any reason the conflict involves 1 or 2 of these three they will be replaced on the committee by the next senior member of the league.
