Series Stats: Expos and Cardinals

Series Outstanding Players by game: Steve Carlton (Games 1 & 5), Bill Lee (Game 2), Dave Cash (Game 3), Scott Sanderson (Game 4) & Gary Carter (Game 6) ST.LOUIS (AP) - Both the Cardinals and Expos got to this series by upsetting teams that were heavily favored.  St. Louis got here by relying on the left arm of Steve Carlton, timely hitting and great base running.  In this series they could only count on Carlton as the Cardinal bats went stone cold.
Gary Carter held Lou Brock and company at bay with his rifle right arm, while the Expos enjoyed clutch hitting and solid pitching from their underrated staff.  After taking the opener the Cards dropped 3 straight to Montreal, which included a 10th inning heartbreaker in the pivotal game 3.  The Expos closed it out in 6 and will be heading to Philadelphia for the NLCS opener.
