Braves 2, Reds 1: Spahnie was able to turn back the clock by tossing a complete game shutout in game 2.  Aided by 2 long balls hit by his star third baseman Ed Mathews the 40 year old Spahn baffled Cincy's hitter time and time again.  Cincy won the finale to avoid being swept..

Series Results:
Phillies 2, Dodgers 1: The Los Angeles Dodgers came into Philly for a 3 game series.
Game 1-Drysdale vs Bunning. The Phils scored 3 in the bottom of the 1st but the Dodgers answered back with 3 unanswered runs to tie it in the top of the 4th. The Phils managed to get 2 more in the 6th off of Drysdale. Bunning was pulled after 7 1/2 after giving up his 5th run(3 earned) and the bullpen shut down the Dodgers the rest of the way and the final was 6-5 and Bunning improves to 9-0

Game 2-Miller vs Mahaffey. This game was all Dodgers. 3 doubles,3 triples and a homer lead the attack for LA as they rip the Phils 9-2. Roseboro lead the way with a 4-5 day.

Game 3-Koufax vs Culp. This one was a well played game from both teams. Phils were winning 2-1 in the top of the 6th when Frank Howard connected on a Ray Culp fast ball to give tie the game. In the bottom of the 6th, the Phils managed a few hits off of Koufax and score the go ahead and eventual game winning run . Culp pitched 7 innings of 4 hit ball and the Phillies bullpen of Balschdun and Roebuck shut down the Dodgers bats again in the 8th and 9th . The Phillies remain in 2nd place after they take 2 of 3 from the Dodgers.

Series Results:
Pirates 2, Giants 1: The Giants headed to Forbes field for a showdown with the 2nd place Pirates firmly in control of the NL.  They left still in control but looking very beatable.  Game 1 was a slugfest that favored the hometown heroes.  Pittsburgh was the last offense standing.  Game 2 saw the Pirates shutout the Giants much vaunted offense in a 1-0 thriller.  Joe Gibbon tossed 7.2 innings of shutout ball and gave way to reliever Elroy Face who continued the trend for the next 4 outs.  The Pirates scored the lone run of the game in the 4th as catcher Hal Smith drove in the great Roberto Clemente.  Game 3 saw the Giants offense return to promenence and avoid a sweep.  Jim Davenport was 3 for 3 and Mays was 2 for 4.  McCovey hit the games lone homer.

Cubs 2, Cards 1: Chicago is on fire (no puns intended about 1870).  They have gone from the second division back into contention over the past few series.  The Cards too have been hot of late, but their success has been a bit more modest as they have moved from 9th place up to 8th.  St. Louis outpaced Chicago in 10 innings in the opener, but dropped the next 2.
