Series Results:
Dodgers 3, Mets 1: The first 3 games were high scoring affairs.  LA won the first 2.  Drysdale was the winning pitcher in the 2nd, but did give up a lot of runs, which has been the case for him lately.  Tommy Davis hit a tape measure shot over the Polo Grounds clubhouse measuring 527 feet.  Frank Thomas increased his league leading homerun count to 21.  In an interesting twist of fate Bob Miller faced himself in game 3 and wound up winning...and losing.  Koufax was his dominant self in the finale.  He gave up 2 runs on a 2 out homer by Thomas, which narrowed the score from 3-0 to 3-2.

Tommy Davis hits a tape measure shot:  Empty Davis faces Jackson,A batting a solid .357 on the season with 3 home runs and 24 runs batted in he's hitting just .176 in June .. runner on 1st Jackson,A stares in the first pitch to Davis he cuts.. here's a deep fly ball to center way back there Ashburn going back quickly .. outta here HR number 4 for Davis that one measured 527 feet.

Cubs 2, Braves 1: Chicago's lack of pitching almost did them in, but they managed to hang on and win the opener and come back to win the 2nd game in 10.  The Cubs were up 10-4 in the 8th and their pourus bullpen let the potent Braves offense right back into the game.  Thankfully for the Cubs the Braves have even more bullpen woes than the North Siders.  Lew Burdette stopped the bleeding in game 3 as Milwaukee salvaged some respectability.

Game 1: This game began as a defensive battle with the score tied at 2 and both teams having 4 hits apiece thru 6 – both teams were evenly matched. The only highlight at this point in the game was Frank Robinson, who hit a solo shot in the 2nd (his 10th) and he collected both RBI’s for the Reds. The Cards managed to scrape 2 more runs for a 4-2 lead after 8. However, the game broke open in the top 9th as Ken Boyer smacked a Grand Slam (his 9th) – Boyer ended up with 6 RBI’s for the game. Not going down easy, Frank Robinson hit his 2nd homer of the game (his 11th) in the bottom of the 9th for the Reds – Robinson accounted for all 3 runs for his team. Overall, Curt Simmons (6-3) went the distance and pitched a good game for the Cards. Final score: Cards top the Reds 8-3.

Game 2: To start Game 2, Ken Boyer picked up where he left off in Game 1, by hitting a triple (part of back-to-back triples) and the Cards jumped to a quick 3-0 lead off Joey Jay after 1 inning. To counter, Ray Sadecki pitched rather well and held the Reds to 3 hits and no runs thru 5 – but the Reds managed another hit and its first run in the 6th and now trailed 3-1. Sadecki then walked the first two batters in the 7th and the Reds scored another run on a SAC fly to now trail 3-2 thru 7. Sadecki then settled down to retire the side in the 8th. After a brutal 1st inning, Joey Jay held the Cards in check for 8 innings. In the bottom of the 9th, Mr. Frank Robinson hit a solo shot (his 12th) to tie the game – and we’re heading for extra innings boys!! Both Sadecki and Jay pitched a scoreless 10th. Bridges replaced Jay in the 11th and held the Cards in check. Sadecki gave up 2 quick hits in the bottom of the 11th – Roger Craig came in with 2 men on and no outs to hold serve and end the inning. Javier led off the 12th for the Cards and reached base on an error – and stole 2nd. Javier moved to 3rd on a Curt Flood single and Grote then drove him in on a SAC fly. Not to be outdone, Gordy Coleman smacked his 12th HR to tie the game at 4 in the 12th – and then Lynch came in as a PH and hit a walk-off HR (his 3rd) to end the game in dramatic fashion. Sadecki can only shake his head at the lost opportunity. Final score: Reds top Cards 5-4 in 12.

Game 3: With Bob Gibson set to take the mound, the Cards were ready to bounce back. Both teams were scoreless after 2. In the top 3rd, Javier and Uecker had back-to-back singles – and Gibson then had to bunt to move them over to help his cause. Curt Flood then hit a double to drive in both runs. Flood came in to score after an error and a single by Groat – and the Cards led 3-0 after 3. Despite a bad 3rd inning, Ken Hunt pitched well for the Reds – but Gibson held the Reds to only 3 hits and no score thru 6. In the 7th, Mr. Robinson doubled off Gibson and scored on a Coleman hit – but the Cards still led 3-1 after 7. Nothing goin on in the 8th. In the 9th, Jay Hook came in for Hunt and Bill White led off the 9th for the Cards with a K - but Javier then smacked a triple off of Hook and scored on an error with Gibson at bat. The Cards then got 3 straight hits from Flood, Warwick, and Groat to score 4 runs in the 9th and take a commanding 7-1 lead. Gibson (5-6) went on to close the books in the bottom 9th – but ended with only 4 K’s
