Scouting Report:
Phils: Lost 2 of 3 to the 1st place Giants.  All three were very close games.  Bunning won the opener in dominant fashion and improved to 6-0.  He'll face Koufax in game 2, which is sure to be a great old fashioned pitcher's duel.

Dodgers: Swept the Mets, but needed some late inning theatrics in 2 of the 3 games.  Must win game 2, since that is the one toss up game in the series.  The smart money favors Drysdale in the opener and Chris Short in the finale.  Pete Richert has been terrible.  Wills hasn't gotten his legs in gear with only 6 steals.

Series Results:
Phillies 2, Dodgers 1: Just what you'd expect from these two teams, 3 one run games and two classic pitcher's duels.  Game 1 went to LA as Drysdale had just enough to eek out a 5-4 win.  Game 2 saw one of the ages as Bunning out dueled Koufax.  Bunning struck out 10 and Koufax was equally as brilliant.  Neither pitcher gave up an earned run (Philly scored on an error.  Game 3 saw Chris Short give up 1 run and Pete Richert give up only 2 as he finally rose to the occasion a control the opposition.  Philly won it in the 11th as Dodger catcher Doug Camilli threw the ball into centerfield on Roy Sievers SB attempt, which allowed an unearned run to score.  Tommy Davis had a 10 game hitting streak snapped in game 2, but his batting average is still up in the .360's.  LA is in sole possession of 2nd place 3 back of SF.

Mets: They find a way to lose every night.  Without any bullpen help they allowed the Dodgers to comeback and win 2 games they should have lost thus ensuring a sweep..

Colt 45's: They are the antithesis to their expansion counterparts, the Mets.  Houston wins with pitching and has the league leader in ERA (Turk Farrell) on their staff.  Don McMahon buoys their bullpen and allows them to hold late leads.  With Roman Mejias and Norm Larker continuing to hit lights out the young Colts are staying in contention.

Series Results:
Mets 2, Colts 2: The Mets doubled their road win total by taking two games here in Houston.  Getting a series split was a huge shocker, but the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club will take just about anything.  Houston has confounded the experts by staying in contention.  Dropping 2 games to the Mets is not a good way to keep in a pennant race.  Roger Craig gave up 3 runs in 6 innings and left the first game on the losing side of the ledger.  The Mets rallied to score 1 in the 7th and 1 in the 9th to overcome Houston and take the opener.  Craig Anderson notched his 3rd save of the season as he came on to work a 1-2-3 ninth inning.  Norm Larker and Roman Mejias homered for the losers.  Game 2 saw Al Jackson get knocked around again.  The only relief he got was a 51 minute rain delay in the 4th.  Turk Farrell won his 5th and didn't do much damage to his league leading ERA total.  The 3rd game saw Jay Hook cruise to his 5th win, which is almost half the Mets' season total, as the Amazin's destroyed Houston 15-3.  Houston starter Ken Johnson had nothing in his right arm as he was torched for 11 runs in 4 1/3 innings.  NY scored 5 in the opening frame and 8 in the 5th, when the finally knocked Johnson from the box.  The finale was a 2-1 pitcher's duel that saw Houston's George "Red" Witt come out on top of NY's hardluck Bob Miller.  Witt singled home the game winner in the 4th..

PBP Highlights:
Back to back homers by Mejias and Larker in a losing effort: 1st & 3rd Mejias steps in against Craig,R Craig,R is ready the first pitch from Craig,R Mejias cuts.. deep fly to center way back there Ashburn racing back .. home run! Scouting Report:
Cubs: Their bats feasted on Cardinal pitching and their pitching got well against the anemic Cardinal offense.  Their 3 game sweep vs STL propelled them above .500 and out of the second division.  They'll need top notch pitching vs the stacked Cincy lineup, which is lead by Frank Robby who is hitting over .400.

Reds: They look to outslug the Cubs and hope that their slight edge on the hill will be enough.  Their pitching has been much better as of late and of course Frank Robby hasn't made an out since spring training.  Vada Pinson has gotten hot as well.
