Phillies 2, Colt 45's 1: The Phills moved in sole possession of 2nd place by taking 2 of 3 from Houston.  Game 1 saw lefty Chris Short throw a 2 hit complete game gem verse the light hitting Colts.  Johnny Callison banged out 3 hits and knocked home one of the 2 Philly runs (Richie Allen knocked in the other).  Game 2 saw Dean Stone and Don McMahon combine to shut down the Phillies.  Bob Aspromonte hit his 5th homer for the winning squad.  Al Spangler went 3 for 3.  Game 3 saw Philadelphia put it all together offensively.  Callison had 3 hits and 2 Ribbies as newly inserted tablesetter Cookie Rojas was on base all day.  Dennis Bennett was efficient and gave up only 2 runs in 7 innings for his 6th win of the season.

Pirates 3, Dodgers 1: The Pirates got healthy at the expense of the free falling Dodgers (2-8 in their last 10).  The lone bright spot was the great Koufax who carried a perfect game into the 7th inning of game 3.  The finale was a drama filled 16 inning affair that saw LA actually go ahead in the 12th only to allow Pittsburgh to tie it back up and eventually win it 4 innings later, when Bill Virdon plated Don Hoak on a fielder's choice that was almost a game saving DP.

Cardinals 3, Reds 1: St. Louis has won 9 of their last 10 and has moved out of 9th place for the first time in weeks.  The offense looks to be on track for the first time all year and the pitching has more margin for error.  Cincy avoided the sweep by taking the finale 13-5.  Frank Robinson is still batting over .400 and leading the league in hitting, but unfortunately for the Reds he can't pitch as well.
