Rain in the opener heavily influenced the outcome in this 4 game series.

Game 1 - [Crosley Field]  - Braves 6, Reds 4
Mother nature hit the Queen city with a downpour that lasted almost an hour. The downpour wasn't the only thing that hit Cincinnati...the Braves bats did the job too. A 4 run outburst in the 6th inning off of Norm Charlton doomed the home team that banged out 10 hits, but could only score 4 runs.
Rico Carty homered for the Braves and Phil Niekro stuck around long enough (6 innings) to get the win. Gene Garber went the final 2 for the save. Mario Soto, thanks to the rain, lasted only 5 innings. He was cruising to that point.

Game 2 -  [Crosley Field]  - Reds 5, Braves 1
The Big Red Machine again banged out 10 hits. This time they posted 5 runs and
Tom Seaver went the distance allowing only a solo homer to Joe Torre. Seaver increased his tournament record to 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA. Frank Robinson and George Foster homered for Cincy.

Game 3 -  [Fulton County Stadium] - Braves 3, Reds 2
Warren Spahn went the distance and allowed only 2 runs on 4 hits. Both runs came by way of solo homers off the bats of Lee May and Eric Davis respectively and both occured late in the game when Spahn was obviously tiring. The Braves scored 2 in the bottom of the first when Rico Carty hit a 2 run homer. The winning run was scored in the 4th and was unearned off of Jose Rijo. Tony "Doggie" Perez was charged with an error on a bad hop grounder to third hit by Bill Bruton. Ralph Garr singled Bruton home with 2 outs.

Game 3 -  [Fulton County Stadium] - Braves 5, Reds 4
Gary Nolan and Tom Glavine both pitched into the 8th inning, but neigher was involved in the decision. Cincy rallied in the 9th to score the tying run off of reliever Gene Garber, when
Gus Bell singled home Ken Griffey Sr. HOF'er Eddie Mathews led off the 9th with a tape measure shot off of reliever Clay Carroll to end the game and close out the series.
