PIT 31, IND 3: INDIANAPOLIS (AP)-- No Big Ben -- no problem. The Steelers used Charlie Batch, Willie Parker and a stifling defense to crush the Indianapolis Colts, 31-3, en route to an AFC Championship showdown with the New England Patriots. The Steelers threw early and often, despite not having their starting QB for the game. Charlie Batch started out an incredible 11-for-11, finishing the day with a sky-high 137.9 QB rating, while throwing for 176 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tommy Maddox even completed a pair of passes. The Steelers struggled early despite moving the ball at will. They only scored three points off there first two drives after failing on a fourth and one attempt and bogging down inside the Colts' 10. The Colts were unable to capitalize on the Steelers' early shortcomings though, going three and out on their opening possession and only crossing midfield once in the first half. Pittsburgh caught fire in the second quarter, with Batch throwing both his TDs, one a 13-yarder to Cedric Wilson and the other a 32-yarder to Hines Ward. Down 17-0, Indy tried a desperation onside kick to open the half and paid dearly for it. The Steelers took over at mid-field and Willie Parker took it to the house from 32-yards out to run the score to 24-0. The second half belonged to Parker, who finished the day with 150 yards on 17 attempts. Much of that was to the left side as the Colts lost linebacker Cato June early in the game and Pittsburgh victimized his replacement. The Steelers out-gained Indy 393-234 and held an 11 minute edge in time of possession. Indianapolis scored its only three points on a 31 yard field goal that closed the gap to 24-3 with just under 10 minutes left in the third quarter. The Colts put together a number of second half drives as Peyton Manning, who was harassed all day and sacked three time, only completed 17-33 passes for 229 yards. He also threw a pair of interceptions, including an early one to Troy Polamalu, who recorded his third pick of the post season. Manning's second pick came with time winding down in the fourth quarter. Safety Chris Hope returned it to the Indianapolis three yard line and Jerome Bettis punched it in for the game's final score.
