Too much Dick Bass (pictured) and not enough comeback prevented the
Yankees from pulling this one out late.. |

1964 Denver Broncos 34, 1969 Chicago Bears
29:
The amazing Gayle Sayers (pictured) almost carried the Bears on his
shoulders, but the Broncos offense could not be stopped by Chicago's
defense.

aggressive defense that never allowed Detroit a chance to be in this
ballgame.. |

1999 Cleveland Browns 20, 1994 Houston
Oilers 12:
Not much offense for both teams as Terry
Kirby (pictured) let the Browns in rushing 2 weeks in a row.. |

1981 NE Patriots 26, 1980 NO Saints 23:
For two straight games the Patsies got a
huge performance out of Tony Collins (pictured) en route to an OT
win over the 'Aints.. |
|
1962 Minnesota Vikings 20, 1966 NY Giants 14:
With both offenses performing offensively the team with the better
defense was bound to win DB Ed Sharockman (pictured) blanketed
Giant receivers and by deflecting 3 passes, interception 1,
recovering 1 fumble and adding 3 solo tackles. The lone black
mark against the Viking secondary was a 88 yard TD reception by Homer
Jones.. |
|
1961 Washington Redskins 19, 1958 Green Bay Packers 10:
Washington rallied from a 10-0 deficit to score 19 unanswered points
and walk away with a win. John Aveni (pictured) kicked 4 FG's
and 1 XP as the 'skins held on to avoid elimination. |
|
1972 Philadelphia Eagles 10, 1969 Pittsburgh Steelers 8:
The battle for PA was marred in controversy as Pittsburgh scored a TD
and only got credit for 1 point. Go figure that the Worst Ever
Tournament would have the worst ever officiating ! Pittsburgh
Coach Pete Katsanfanas refused to blame his team's loss on the
officiating glitch. Pete cited numerous times he had a chance to
score and didn't. The man is truly one of the finest sports we
have ever seen ! Game MVP went to Bill Bradley (pictured) of the
Eagles who had 11 tackles and 2 pass deflections. |
|
1971 Buffalo Bills 15, 1973 Houston Oilers 9 (OT):
It was a battle of FG's that left the score knotted at 9 and forcing
OT. Neither team seemed capable of winning. Coach Sobel got
the ball first and drove his hapless Bills into the end zone with a O.J.
Simpson 6 yard run. In this defensive battle Bills DT Bob Tatarek
(pictured) was outstanding with 4 sacks, 7 tackles, 1 stuff and a big
forced fumble.. |
|
2000 SD Chargers 31, 2001 Carolina Panthers 3:
An old fashioned blowout by a Charger offense that doesn't look all
that good on paper. In fact their post-game stats didn't look all
that impressive either. Carolina's poor special teams play and
turnover plagued offense basically gave SD great field position all day.
Gerald Dixon (pictured) had 2 INT's and returned one of them 78 yards
for a TD.. |
|
1992 Seattle Seahawks 23, 1996 NY Jets 14:
Both offenses were pathetic as turnovers were rampant. Seattle
found a way to get a little more from their running game as Chris Warren
(pictured) posted 15-94 (6.3) numbers. The Jets biggest offensive
weapon was Aaron Glen who had a huge INT return for a TD. |
|
1991 Indianapolis Colts 17, 1985 Buffalo Bills 7:
Neither team had a great offense. Indy was penalized a ton of
times including 4 in a row, which forced them to punt deep in their own
zone. Buffalo didn't seem to get any rhythm and Eric Dickerson's
(pictured) workman-like day (23-95-1TD) was enough to help the Colts
move on. Buffalo managed a late meaningless TD then missed
recovering the onside kick. |
