HOME BRACKETS COACHES RESULTS RULES

1962 Minnesota Vikings 30, 2001 Detroit Lions 16:  Tommy Mason ran for 123 yards on only 14 carries (8.8 yards per carry) and then caught 5 passes for 141 yards to carry Minnesota to a huge victory over Detroit and a spot in the tournament finals  Mason added a TD run and reception as well  The score was tied at 10 at halftime.  Coach Abramcyzk made some key changes and shut out Detroit in the second half.  The Lions lost star RB James Stewart early on and could never get their offense on track.  The Lions move over to the final round in the elimination bracket and hope for a rematch.
1992 NE Patriots 23, 1991 Indianapolis Colts 10:  John Vaughn (pictured) pounded the 'Dolts for 100 yards on the ground on only 17 carries and the Patriot defense kept Jeff George on edge as the Pats easily dispatched the Indy.
1974 NY Giants 16, 1972 Philadelphia Eagles 10:  This game was truly a comedy of errors.  The Giants turned the ball over 8 times and were lucky their defense, which was led by John Mendenhall (pictured), held on in the end.  NY scored first with a 68 yard Ray Rhodes punt return for a TD.  Sidewinder Pete Gogalak then proceeded to shank the XP, which almost cost Big Blue dearly.  Gogalak also had a FG blocked, which eventually led to Philly's only TD of the day.  With 1:48 left on the clock Philly was driving for the winning score, when Mendenhall striped RB Larry Watkins of the ball.  NY moves on to face the winner of the 1951 NYY vs 1962 LA game.
1951 NY Yankees 35, 1962 LA Rams 10:  Coach Ed Mikhli is on a roll with this team.  George Taliaferro (pictured) and Sherman Howard both rushed for over 100 yards as the Yankees easily dispatched the LA Rams from the tournament.
2002 Cincinnati Bengals 30, 1999 Cleveland Browns 23 The battle of Ohio didn't disappoint anyone as it was tied 23-23 late in the fourth quarter until John Kitna found Pete Warrick with a 3 yard screen pass.  Corey Dillon (pictured) ran for 97 yard and caught 7 passes for 52 yards and 1 TD.  The pre-tournament favorites are definitely on a major roll.
  WORST EVER BRACKET SEMI-FINALS
1969 Chicago Bears 39, 1973 Houston Oilers 20:  On a day where the Oilers defense held Gayle Sayers to under 60 yards rushing the Oilers offense was unable to move the ball.  In fact the Oilers offense was dominated by Dick Butkus (pictured) who slammed home 14 tackles and cause 2 big fumbles.  The Bears found enough offense thanks to Jack Concanon right arm and Brian Piccolo's legs, which negated the Oilers plan to key on Sayers.  Chicago exits the tournament while the Oilers move on to a date with infamy.
2001 Carolina Panthers 27, 1983 Houston Oilers 20 The game came down to one 10 minute 18 play drive that saw Carolina keep the ball away from Houston and seal the fate of an all Oiler Worst team final. Richard Huntley (pictured) ran for 159 yard on 29 carries, which included 42 yards on the final drive.  Key play during the drive saw Houston take an ill-advised penalty on 4th down to give Carolina back the ball and a fresh set of downs.
